Geezz... This was my first AND LAST Nick Stone book... I started with this one because it had great reviews.I figured if I liked it I'd buy the rest of them and start from the beginning.. I was looking for a new series of books after finishing the Reacher series, Mitch Rapp, Scot Harvath, AXO Pendergast.. While the writing was damn good.. I was seriously disappointed in this character. I expect my heroes to dazzle us with their intellect, skills in fighting, and ultimately triumph at the end. I like to route for them as I did in this book. This one left me depressed and shocked rather than fulfilled and anxious for more...SPOILER ALERT.....At the end, not only does he barely survive multiple fights with second rate henchmen.. but his quasi-adopted daughter gets killed (due to his incompetence) as well as his pregnant partner. WTF??! And I should be happy that Stone lives after he lets down everyone around him? including the reader? Never again...

Dark Winter Nick Stone Book 6 Andy McNab bestselling series of Nick Stone thrillers now available in the US Andy McNab 9781910167458 Books Reviews
Loved it great book. I'm reading all the Nick Stone Novels.
I love the way the author weaves his plots. I normally read his books as soon as they are published.
I bought this book thinking I was getting an action pack thriller. This book is dull, dumb and boring. The hero is anything but. DO NOT WASTE MONEY.
Andy McNabb does it again with another Nick Stone adventure. This one is up to the standard of the previous books, and the ones that have followed, as I've read two of them since I've read this one. Dark Winter is a biological weapon, and the bad guys have it. Nick and company have been tasked with finding it and stopping the bad guys. Let's face it, if you like Andy's writing, you'll like this one. If you don't, then you won't like this one. If you're interested in getting into this series, read them from book one. It really is a series and while they can be read as stand alone stories, they make considerably more sense if you read them in order.
Probably my favorite writer. Every one of Andy McNab's books are extremely well researched. Nick Stone's missions are all straight from the headlines. No super-hero, super ego s***. Just a down to earth Operator. Doesn't have to like the job, just has to get it done!

This was my first Andy McNab book. Some of the terminology from this British writer had me scratching my head.. The protagonist comes across as wimpy in this story. He cares for Kelly but his job interfers, with all his plans. I did not care for the ending at all. Thanks but NO thanks. Amarillo Turtle
One of the best Nick Stone thrillers I've read so far. Like the others in the series, Dark Winter is full of detailed tradecraft, vivid descriptions, believable situations, and lots of unclear situations-- far more "real" than any other writer I've read in the genre.
Andy McNab's anti-hero always gets the job done, and does it for the right reason, but invariably gets the #*&$ kicked out of him in the process. The first-person writing is excellent and very readable. There is considerable violence, and less sanitized than in other writers' work. Dark Winter is no exception from that description, and is "darker" than most in tone and timbre (and ending-- you'll see). This one is set largely in the UK.
For this book, I ordered a hardcover from a UK Marketplace reseller, and was pleasantly surprised to find the (presumably) UK edition was written for UK audiences. While the (presumably) US paperback editions in the series I had read previously had a nice sprinkling of British phrasing and references, they were clearly meant to be understood by US audiences (and occasionally had a glaring Americanism). The UK edition has a ton of British slang and references that take a little getting used to, but it really lent flavor to the British characters (and the UK locales). If you're a fan, try to pick a copy from one of the UK-based resellers, it barely costs any more than the US editions.
If you're reading this series, note that while they can be read individually, there is a clear story-line, so best to read them chronologically.
Highly recommended.
